Cultural Chromatopia - 2084 Narrative
The brief outlines a dystopian setting wherein the city lies in ruins, rendered uninhabitable, with a somber, monotonous atmosphere prevailing. A family grapples with the quest to reclaim spaces for the expression of freedom, culture, and art. Their journey following a colourful light form leads them to unearth an intriguing pattern amidst the archaeological remnants triggering memories associated with it and ultimately unveiling a relic of significance. A counter-culture where the relic of a harmonograph allows the dystopian environment, which is all they know, to become a place where they can bring back their traditions, styles, and heritage. The colour and light which has brought them to the countryside emerge new ways to explore the relic and change the way they surround themselves within this space. AI and VR systems provide further ways to express their forms of reflection and creation. Culture and art are what they were missing and Roche Abbey has become this new world that they use to help bring life back into the city. Through meticulous investigation and exploration, I aim to elucidate the significance of this relic and construct a futuristic narrative within the desolation. This narrative will intricately weave together elements of context, including symbols, rituals, and design, imbuing the relic with profound meaning for the future.
Spatial Concept and Intent
Transforming rigid forms into organic structures, inspired from the movements of the harmonograph, unfolds as visitors progress through the space. They commence by entering the Nave and Church area, where they grasp the significance of the harmonograph. The journey then leads to the cloister, inviting self-reflection, meditation, and participation in a yoga ritual and where their cultural expressions start to come to life again. Here, individuals begin crafting their distinct artworks. Subsequently, they explore AI and VR-generated ideas within organic environments, animating their creations with input witnessing colour and light morphing the space.
